Quick Afternoon in Asheville

Clint and I drove to Asheville on a whim this past weekend for lunch. And to visit Beth :] Of course! Asheville is one of our favorite places for an afternoon drive. It is only about an hour and a half away and there are plenty of things to do there. I know that tons of people love to visit just for the Biltmore Estate – I honestly think it is a bit overrated. The city itself is really funky and has a great vibe! There are some excellent restaurant choices and some adorable shops.

Before meeting Bethy for lunch, we stopped for an iced coffee at Malaprop’s bookstore. There is no cozier place than an independent bookstore and coffee shop. This shop has a nice section just for regional authors. Another favorite is this “Banned Books” display. Don’t see that at Barnes and Noble 🙂

This trip, we ate at Early Girl Eatery. They have a farm-to-table philosohpy and feature food from many nearby family farms. They also serve breakfast all day! Win!

We also make sure to hit up the County Casuals Discount Shoe Warehouse outside of town. Holy shoes – this place rocks! Sometimes I’m disappointed in the lack of nice brands at “warehouse” kinds of outlets, but this place delivers. Some favorites are Frye, Dansko, and Merrell. They’ve got a ridiculous selection at great prices. Even Clint likes to go here!

Where do you like to go on a nice day?
